Driver CPC Major Initiative Launched

Learning World, one of the country’s leading providers of sector specific training and assessment services, is about to launch a major new initiative for the delivery and management of Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualifications.

The extensive experience gained through delivering vocational training and qualifications to industries across the UK sets Learning World apart from other training organisations. It is therefore perfectly placed to administer the soon to be compulsory Driver CPC on national basis through its Logistics arm.

Already working successfully with drivers and fleet operators, in its first year of operation Logistics Learning World delivered in excess of 1000 NVQs.

With EU legislation requiring all professional drivers need to hold a Driver CPC in addition to their normal vocational licence from 10th September 2009, the demand for training and assessment in the UK logistics sector has never been greater. Added to this is the ongoing need for periodic training, which involves all professional drivers completing 35 hours of training every five years.

Whilst for many medium-to-large companies operating commercial fleets, the prospect of their workforce gaining additional qualifications is an appealing outcome, the introduction of the new legislation has also given rise to concerns regarding the effective delivery and ongoing management of Driver CPC.

To overcome these fears, Logistics Learning World has developed an innovative solution offering a complete end-to-end package that goes beyond the legislation. LLW’s programme will help businesses not only to comply - and continue to comply - with the new legal requirements, but the training it provides will significantly increase overall efficiency as well.

LLW will achieve this, firstly by consultation and then by carrying out a detailed needs analysis for each company. It will then prepare a bespoke, structured programme, taking into account the time constraints of day-to-day operation and availability of resources. This is a situation that LLW staff are familiar with, having worked at a variety of depots and alongside drivers, adapting the delivery of the training schedule to fit around shift patterns.

“Our aim is to provide companies with a complete high-quality package that is specifically tailored to suit their operation”, said Kevin Smith, National Logistics Manager for LLW. “We have a great deal of experience, not only in the logistics sector, but in the delivery of vocational training in businesses all over the UK.  We are therefore confident we can provide the best possible solution for administering Driver CPC and the ongoing management of the periodic training. In doing so, we can eliminate the stresses and strains of compliance for the client and their drivers.”

Logistics Learning World believes that the introduction of Driver CPC will not only up-skill the logistics industry as a whole, but will also benefit companies in a number of other areas, as Steve Salt, LLW’s Logistics Sales Manager explains:

“Good training and subsequent qualifications will undoubtedly improve the image of the logistics industry, but more importantly for individual companies, it will also improve efficiency and safety. Consequently, this can lessen the possibility of accidents and reduce downtime, all of which has a positive effect on the bottom line – something which is of prime importance these days.”
Having recently had training administered by Logistics Learning World, Sheffield Newspapers Transport Manager Steve Mickleborough confirms these comments:

“Since carrying out NVQ training with Logistics Learning World we have noticed a real reduction in road accidents and a reduction, to zero, in the number of complaints received from the public. Since their training, our drivers make sure they keep within speed limits, which is not only safer, it’s saving fuel costs too. It reduces our exposure to risks and projects a positive image for our company.”

Logistics Learning World’s Driver CPC initiative is offered on a nationwide scale. Each client will be allocated a dedicated account manager who can call on any one of its 60 Assessors – all with industry experience - and its extensive support team based at the company’s headquarters in Nottingham.
