Abacus Express Couriers are an independent sameday courier specialist, providing instant logistics solutions – anything from parcels to pallets. Offering a dedicated sameday delivery/ collection service across the UK mainland, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. In addition, Abacus provides an urgent delivery service to UK offshore areas and Europe.
Apart from more mundane items, Abacus have ensured that David Beckham’s car keys got returned to him and Michael Schumacher’s head rest was in the right place at the right time. Perhaps one of the most unusual requests received was to make sure 1,000 ducklings arrived safely in Dublin when the aeroplane they were to travel on had technical difficulties – so the Abacus team collected the ducklings and drove them over night to Dublin!
Based near to East Midlands Airport, Abacus is run by sisters, Rachel and Clare Gascoyne, who employ a mix of full and part time staff. Logistics Learning World has been working with Rachel and Clare to qualify them in Carry and Deliver Goods NVQ Level 2.
“When Logistics Learning World told us about the driver qualifications we saw it was something worthwhile,” says Rachel Gascoyne. “All of our team are already qualified in Level 4 Aviation Security and we felt that gaining an appropriate driver qualification would be a real benefit. Of course, best of all it was free!”
“The training helps to show that we take the Corporate Manslaughter Act seriously,” says Clare Gascoyne. “John, our Learning World NVQ assessor, was great. He kept in touch with me in order to plan when he could come out and observe me driving, making sure it all fitted around my work. The process has been easy and there’s been no cost to the business, time or money wise. Perfect!”
“The whole thing has worked well. We gained a recognised qualification whilst doing our job – can’t get any better than that. We’re now looking to roll out the driver to the rest of the team.”
