Pre and Post Journey Procedures (1 day)

Purpose of the Unit

The purpose of this unit is to enable the learner to identify what pre and post journey checks have to be completed, in accordance with the relevant legislation and regulation, for both load and vehicle and how these checks should be recorded and monitored. The vehicle type is any vehicle used for the movement of loads by road. The load is any goods moved by road. This unit will cover documentation, procedures and reporting lines for reporting damage or defects found during the pre and post journey inspections and will focus on the health and safety issues that could arise from such situations. There will also be some consideration given to incorporated environmental devices that will maximise environmental and fuel efficient driving.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify required pre-journey checks and documentation for relevant load and vehicle.
  2. Obtain and apply the regulations and codes of practice that apply to the load and vehicle.
  3. Ensure safety and security of load and vehicle.
  4. Complete post-journey checks and documentation.
