Handling Goods and Materials (1 day)

Purpose of the Unit

The purpose of this unit is to enable the learner to make provision for the safe and effective delivery of their load. Learners will determine the information they require to make sure that the load can be transferred to and from the vehicle, taking into account any restrictions to movement or specialist equipment that may be required to accommodate either the vehicle or the load. The learner will determine what information, in accordance with operational and organisational procedures, is required from whom and with what required notice. Communication will be an essential element in the processing of the required information.

Learning Outcomes

1. Be able to produce a checklist of required information.
2. Be able to produce a contact list of relevant personnel, including those of the appropriate authorities, for specific queries.
3. Complete and distribute documentation as required in accordance with organisational and legal requirements.
4. Be able to estimate any operational adjustments that may be required during transfer of goods.
5. Be aware of and apply health and safety requirements of load and personnel.
